One of India’s leading Kathak artists of her generation, Sanjukta Sinha is known for her technical expertise and immense artistry. A solo dancer of distinction, she has also performed in ensembles as well as collaborated with several leading international names across various dance forms, keen to create contemporary expressions of dance based on Kathak.

Smt. Kumudini Lakhia

Smt. Kumidini Lakhia (Kumiben to her students) is an internationally renowned Kathak dancer and choreographer based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where she founded the Kadamb School of Dance and Music. A pioneer in Kathak dance, Mrs Lakhia is credited for moving away from the solo form of Kathak starting in the 1960s, by turning it into a group spectacle, and also innovations like taking away traditional stories and adding contemporary storylines into Kathak repertoire. She was conferred with India’s third highest civilian honour, the Padma Bhushan, in 2010. She is the guru to some of India’s most acclaimed Kathak dancers.
